It's getting closer and closer!! I've spent the past two days doing my Preceptorship in the ER, and I am LOVING it!! No really, it has me considering ER as opposed to Postpartum...something I thought would never happen! Doesn't mean I'll do it, but it does have me thinking...2 ER shifts down, 5 to go...we'll see what happens!!
Today I went to take the HESI exam at school. I don't know what that stands for, but basically it is an exam that all nursing students have to take that is used to evaluate the school and also to predict how well we will do on the NCLEX test (the exam I have to take to actually be licensed by the state as a nurse). Our instructors told us to allow 4-5 hours to take the test. It took me 1 hr and 40 minutes. The "acceptable" score is 850, with the "recommended" score above 900. I got 1053, which is in the 97th percentile. I was shocked!! I'm curious to see how the other's in my class have done. We have a week to go in and take the exam on our own time, so not everyone has taken it yet. They told us not to study for it, as it covers ALL of the material throughout the entire nursing program, plus by not studying it would give us a more accurate prediction of how well we'll do on NCLEX. One other girl who I don't really know (she's from the traditional program and I'm in the weekend group) finished right before I did, she said it took her 3 hours and she scored in the 700's (below the "acceptable" level). Good thing for her this exam doesn't count towards our grade or determine graduation!!
Anyway, I'm just very pleased that I am now predicted to do very well on NCLEX. I sure wish I felt like I knew everything this test seems to think I know...I really just think I'm a good test taker...a good "guesser" of multiple choice questions.
Whatever! I don't have to go back to the school campus until May 13th! :-)

Yay Abigail! That must feel so good to be in the 97th percentile for your exam! You're going to end up doing awesome on the finals!
Good luck, and enjoy the break from classes until next month!
Glad you are enjoying your preceptorship!!
I believe HESI stands for Health Education Systems, Inc. (according to a website I found). Our school has us take 7 HESIs, including the exit one.
Good job on yours!!!! That is a terrific score. It is so nice that your school does not factor in the score for a grade or uses it to determine graduation! Our school factors in the most of the HESIs for a certain % of our grade, according to what area it is testing. For example, our peds & OB HESI will be 30% of our grade in those classes. And we have to get at least an 850 on the exit HESI to graduate.
Sounds like things are going well - take care!
