IF this week's ultrasound was correct, we might just skip Newborn size clothing and diapers altogether...
That's right, apparently I grow monster babies. We can't blame Scott, because he was a very normal 7 lbs 9 oz at 40 weeks and 1 day. Well, his daughter is almost that big NOW at 34 weeks and 2 days, weighing in at an approximate 7 lbs 5 oz....which is a whole 3 weeks ahead (37w1d to be exact). Granted this is all based on ultrasound measurements of the skull, abdomen and femur...how they get weight estimates from those measurements I really don't know...but holy big baby batman!! She's now above the 90th percentile.
I find it kind of ironic that the reason we even had an ultrasound this week was because I was measuring SMALL at my 32 week appointment. So my Dr wanted to make sure she was still growing appropriately and check my amniotic fluid to make sure it wasn't low. Everything is fine...I guess I just hide it well, lol.
I REALLY have a hard time believing there is 7+ lbs of baby inside me...I just don't feel that big...and I take care of newborns all the time...I know exactly how big that is...and I just don't think she's that big!! Plus these growth ultrasounds can be off by a pound or more in either direction, and they tend to over-estimate waaaay more often than under-estimating. I don't know how many times I've seen an estimate in the 10 lb range and the patient then delivers an 8 lb baby.
So, IF the ultrasound was correct and she's really packed on 4 lbs in the past 6 weeks (remember she was ~3 lbs 6 oz at 28 weeks), and she still has another 6 weeks to cook...AND they tend to gain more at the end...she has the potential to be 11+ lbs. I took care of an 11 lb baby last night at work. Ummmm, can you say TODDLER??? :::cries::: I don't want to give birth to a toddler!!! Haha, I'm just kidding, she's not going to be that big. (What's the definition of denial again?)
My guess is that they will do another growth ultrasound at 38 weeks to see just how big she is, and if she has continued on this trend I will most likely be induced at that time. OR if she's just way to huge, they'll schedule a c-section. This is just my guess from what I see happen at work all the time.
All in all, I am VERY happy with the ultrasound. So what if she's big!! I'm just thrilled that she's growing!! Keep growing (not-so)-little Monkey!! Mommy and Daddy can't wait to see you in a few weeks!! :-D
Oh, and for the record...I think she's going to come out sometime between 38 and 40 weeks weighing 8-something...I guess we'll see soon enough.

Oh--sorry no ultrasound pictures...I guess both Scott and I were way too shocked by the tech's repetetive "Big baby....BIG baby!!!" to remember to ask her to switch to 3D. I am quite bummed by this...but oh well. We got really good 3D pics at 28 weeks.
